Long time since I’ve written here. I almost abandoned the post here like forever because I have a new Newsletter based on my design accounts, but in the Indonesian language. But then I think it is a different character of writing from what I have here, right? despite the language is also different. So why not continue it here separately?
After Covid-19, with the layoffs, it has continued even worse until now, in 2023-2025 this year. Whether Post-COVID-19 and the Russian War. We can see the list of companies that laidoff here.
Ironically, ‘design,’ especially design in tech, which is UI/UX or Product Design, is the most impacted role. Some of them are even quitting UX. I don’t, though. Because quitting means you are leaving it intentionally. I will go with the flow while holding my skills in UI/UX. But at the same time, I hold other skills that ‘a nice to have’ besides UI/UX. Although I’m still lucky that I still have some connections for freelance work from my previous employers. Of course, when everything gets better, I will go back to full-time if I want, when they need and when I am available.
I’m lucky enough that I still can do UI/UX in terms of selling templates for the landing page or UI kit. Everyone will find their own path in this situation.
Many articles or videos are posted about ‘UX is dead’ as well as the other way around. It is not dead, actually. I agree with the post who against it. But on the other side, it is not ‘alive’ as before as well, which we cannot ignore that fact. No need to fight the ‘UX is dead’ posts for the sake of UX. It is still alive, tho…but it’s definitely different now.
This is just to update my writing here about what happened today which many people know of course. Because my latest post was in 2021 where the tech industry still good even after Covid-19. Only certain industries impacted by Covid-19.
