Indonesian tech is really depending on position – a bit like self branding but more than that

Note: That 'position' can be the title, or if it's not about the title, it could be about something like, 'Are you still safe?'. I cannot explain this question in more detail, or it could be about where you work currently, but it does not really matter anymore, I think, for now (about where you work, it is just a bonus). Or whatever the thing is, it could be back to the first thing above because the problem can be a vicious circle. But as a Muslim, it is great that we have Allah, so something that matters to people could be small for us if it doesn't affect the hereafter. If someone is playing politics or tactics, hardly behind it, especially to another who is not playing anything at all, then this is proven.

I like sharing and teaching. That’s why I have social media accounts related to my work in design since 2011, when the ‘self-branding’ term was not familiar yet. But I can see the difference between design in tech and non-tech in Indonesia.

Not only about design, also the industry in tech. Although the digital marketing niche also advises everyone to do self-branding when creating content, it’s different. It has nothing to do with how much money you earn and or your position. In the digital marketing world, ordinary people or even poor people can be ‘something’ as long as they have content on social media, moreover if it goes viral. The bad side of this is random content, which looks stupid, can also be viral here.

I have 2 design accounts, one named @infodkv it is for design education, design college as visual communication design, so it is more global. Another one, @designabroad_ formerly @tanyajawab_ux (means Question & Answers UX in English), the account name was called UX Change. Since it was named with ‘UX’ before, it was more about design in tech and UI/UX.

Now, @designabroad_ is more about a design newsletter for both accounts, especially about remote work, not really to create content anymore, although I was sometimes updated there on the Post feed.

Based on this, I should take priority on which one deserves my time and energy to be updated and shared, despite I don’t always intentionally grow the account hardly.

At @infodkv I could get anything that is impossible; If I need to get the same results in the @designabroad_ account. Despite the admin behind it is the same person, me. But the followers are different, the connections are different as well. Some of them are the same person, though, but overall, most of them are different people, different cultures, different characters in the professional world.

Ironically, despite Tech Winter, I know much more about UX/design in tech than design globally. Well, maybe that’s why.

Speaking of Tech Winter, after I wrote the things above, Tech Winter is a bad thing in general. But for me, it is a reminder that NO ONE is really safe, no matter who you are in tech. It is like God wants to warn tech people.
